Quick-n-Dirty

I haven't time to really blog today so here's just some quick-n-dirty updates.

On Sunday afternoon, I was interviewed about synesthesia and it will be featured on the local PBS radio station next month. It was cool.

I'm making another Julia Child recipe tonight, Daube de Boeuf, which is a casserole of beef, vegetables, capers and anchovies. This weekend, I'm preparing a whole Julia Child meal for seven friends and I'm excited about that.

I broke my camera the other day by piling books on top of it in my book bag. Duh. A new one should arrive today.

And since I can't think of anything to write about, I'll leave you with one of the greatest moments in American history:  And that is, of course, Aretha Franklin's hat.

Dear Santa . . .

Dear Santa,

Do you remember that incredible hat that Aretha Franklin wore at the inauguration earlier this year? You may have been resting after having just delivered all those presents to every good little boy and girl.
(you missed me).
In case you missed it, here’s a reminder:
Isn’t it fabulous?

No, I’m not asking for Aretha’s hat for Christmas, though I bet Prancer would like one.

But look what just became available online. . . a pretty, shiny glass Aretha-Franklin’s-Hat Christmas Ornament!

Isn’t it pretty?

This ornament is all I want for Christmas. I know that the Baby Jesus would be very happy if you brought this to me. This ornament would look so fantastic on my Festivus Pole, don’t you think?
Better yet, I could have the Grinch in my manger display wear it.

You don’t even need to get your elves to make it ‘cause you can order it online.

If you don’t know how to work the internet, I’ll order it for myself and you can just reimburse me the 43 bucks. I’ll leave the receipt next to your cookies and milk.

I promise to be a good boy this year. I really do.

Again, I apologize for that incident when I was fourteen. You know -- When I told my five-year-old brother that you had been killed in a sleigh crash. It was mean.

So, if you bring me this Aretha Franklin’s Hat Christmas Ornament, I promise I’ll never ever ask for anything else ever again.

Well, unless she sings at President Obama’s next inauguration, that is.

Be sure to say ‘hi’ to Rudolph and Olive (The Other Reindeer) who used to laugh and call him names.

Love,

Buck

Aretha Franklin's Hat

I'm still pretty jazzed over Aretha Franklin and that killer outfit she wore at the inauguration (not to mention her performance!).

Just to refresh your memory:

Apparently, some other bloggers thought quite a bit of her outfit too, especially her hat.

And they can do Photoshop:

The Inauguration

Well, I will say it - - - I was expecting a lot more from President Obama’s inaugural speech. I kept waiting for “the line” that we’ll all remember in history.

It never came.

There was no “The greatest thing to fear” line
or “Ask not what you can do for your country” line.

I was watching the speech with a large group of co-workers in the lobby of my workplace where we have a big TV on the wall. I kept waiting to get cold chills down my spine but it didn't happen.
For days now, the news commentators were saying how Obama would need to hit this one out of the ballpark. (I can’t believe I’m going to use a sports analogy here) He didn’t appear to do so, but he certainly didn’t strike out either.

Our president made it to first base – and I think the news commentators will have gotten him there by giving him a “walk.”
Like I should be the least bit critical. It's a good thing I didn't have to give a speech with billions of people watching. I would have required a large Thorazine drip.
I do think it’s pretty wonderful that we elected a president with the middle name of Hussein. It just goes to show the world that, perhaps, most Americans are intelligent enough to look beyond a name and any negative connotations we may think may have.

There’s always King Hussein of Jordan anyway. He was a good guy.

I did get chills up my spine when Aretha Franklin sang, though.

The First Lady made news by wearing a Toledo dress, but Aretha definitely stole the show with her hat! Oh my goodness, I loved loved loved that hat.

All in all, it feels really good to write “President Obama.”

I want to know more about that hat, though. . .
