Where were you, when. . . ?

I remember exactly where I was during the first manned lunar landing during the summer of ’69. (Watching the TV on the front porch of my great-aunt’s lake house)

I remember exactly where I was when I learned of the Challenger explosion in January of ’86. (I was working in the international department at a bank in Austin, Texas)

Heck, I can even remember bits and pieces of the Kennedy assassination even though I was only four years old. (My parents were upset and that scared me. I remember watching the black-and-white TV)

And now. I’ll always remember right where I was yesterday when I read that Jodie Foster FINALLY acknowledged her lesbianism.

Seminal moments in history. . .

  4. Man, my memory sucks, I don't remember anything important. Oh, I do remember where I was when Reagan was shot. On the playground, the teacher yelling "come inside, the President has just been shot". Yes, I am that young. (Well, not THAT young)

    4. I believe I was 9 years old, watching Bad News Bears for the first time, when I saw her in her baseball cap and I said "Hey mom, I think she's a lesbian." And my mom said "She's a WHAT?"

    1. I was in Athens, Greece, on a student tour of Europe, watching from the street on one of a dozen B&W TV's in an appliance store. All I saw was shots of what looked like Mission Control - a room with a bunch of guys in it -
    2. I was driving my kids to school listening to NPR when the news came on - it was so sad. The kids made memorial artwork in their classes that day.
    3. I heard about the assasination after school from a teacher. I was in 7th grade in Detroit, Michigan, and thought the teacher was stupid. I came home and my mom was sitting in front of the TV watching Huntley and Brinkley and crying.
    4. Yawn - old news.

  9. JP: I had her figured out when she appeared on the Andy Griffith Show.

Nayb: You listen to NPR? You're such a liberal.

Bunny! You're back! The world is a better place again.

  10. Normally, I don't get bent out of shape when gay celebrities don't come out, but Jodie was annoying me earlier this year when she wouldn't stop talking about her kids while tersely saying "no comment" when people asked her about the OUT story -- essentially refusing to acknowledge her partner and passing herself off as a single mom. I'm glad she's out, and that she did it in such a way that focused on her beloved rather than her sexuality. Classy.
